ABOUT OUR CLUB

One of the most unique aspects to the GCLTC, and that truly sets us apart from other clubs, is that our focus is solely on the development of young kids in our own school districts (Ladue, Hazelwood West, Parkway Central). Our coaches typically work with their high school kids around 9 months per year, working a specific and individualized training plan and progression of skills. We believe that although the summer season is short, it is critical to the athlete’s development that they keep continuity with their training.

Another unique aspect to the Lightning, is the approach to training during the summer season. Rather than maintain our athlete’s current abilities, we believe in continuous improvement in our athlete’s skills & knowledge, leading to improved performances. All of the Lightning coaches are certified educators and certified USATF coaches; therefore, we emphasize teaching proper mechanics and techniques. Through our coach to athlete ratio of approximately 6 to 1, we are able to dedicate individualized attention.

Over the past 20 years, the Lightning has produced dozens of USATF & AAU All-Americans and National Champions. The Lightning Track club is regarded as one of the premier track & field organizations in the country. In 2010, the Lightning Women captured the AAU Young Women’s Regional Championship and the USATF Young Women’s National Championship. Although we are a competitive organization, our primary objective is to teach young people in our school districts the importance of exercise, fair play, and healthy living.
